PRIMARY SCHOOL, KRONSBERG, HANOVER

The entrance area to the primary school at the foot of Kronsberg is the interface between school and neighbourhood. The space, located directly on Basisstraße, is used as a public square with skater ramps, an orchard of apple trees and several seating areas.

The adjacent sports hall is aligned with the urban pattern of the proposed residential area; the school is set back from Basisstraße.

Behind the school open areas link into the existing vegetation, forming sheltered spaces. Further north, the site opens out into the landscape. The theme of the project is ‘school in a landscape stetting’, its orientation facing away from the built-up area of Kronsberg.

Gabions continue the line of the elongated building. The slightly falling landform is modelled into ‘cultivated terraces’ for intensive sports and play activities, forming an edge to the extensive landscape areas.
